Why such the long face? Here, use this -mektense suffix to come up with all the things you can do instead of being sad. Like joining us for today's lesson!
Saying "instead" with -mektense.

Hi thanks for this great web site
My question is about the last exercice in the review , the sentence is very different of the example given of the separate subjects, İ really didn't get it ?

Merhaba Monia!

Okay, let's see if we can break it down.

-Rather than me cooking, we should go out.
-Benim pişirmemdense biz dışarı çıkmalıyız.

I'm guessing it's probably the "me cooking" that's confusing. In Turkish, we would use the possessed short infinitive to say this - just like in "gitmem lazım" (my going is needed; I need to go).

So, benim pişirme + im = benim pişirmem = my cooking.

Adding the suffix we learned:
Benim pişirmemdense = rather than my cooking

Does that clear it up?

"Dışarı çıkıp sıkılmaktansa evde otururum daha iyi."
Would it also be possible to use "oturmam daha iyi" instead.
Thanks,
John

Yep, you can say that. It means exactly the same thing. :)

Why are most of the examples in the practice from the form mentioned (that takes a person) at the very end when the lion's share of the lesson was just the straight forward mektense? A little misleading! =)
